OK, so I’m watching the inauguration last week and sometime during the parade lo and behold an ad for a contraceptive comes on.
WTF?
I was so stunned that I can’t remember the name of the product, or even if it was a pill or a device. I’ve been googling off-and-on this past week trying to find out what the ad was for, but so far no luck. So I thought I’d throw it out here and see if anyone else saw the same thing I did. Maybe someone TiVo’d the entire broadcast and can find that ad.
I thought it was odd to have a contraceptive advertised on network television. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen ads for condoms on cable tv, but as far as network tv goes the only sex-related ads are for the Holy Trinity of Cialis, Levitra, and Viagra. My sympathies to the parents who have to explain what “four-hour erection” means to their children.
I’m looking forward to the Super Bowl this Sunday. I like both teams and am hoping for a good game. I haven’t heard much about commercials to be aired during the broadcast; companies might be cutting back on advertising since the economy is in such bad shape. We’re sure to see the usual array of ads aimed towards males, the major football demographic. Ads for beer, fancy cars, Cialis/Levitra/Viagra. (And not a one for Tampax.) In the interest of equal time NBC should air ads for contraceptives to balance out the erectile dysfunction ads. I vote for this one:
John Roberts needs to go back to Chief Justice School:
The presidential oath of office is required of a new president before he can execute his powers, and the Constitution is clear that its 35 words must be spoken exactly.
Which is what makes the oath President Obama took yesterday before nearly 2 million spectators so interesting. It might be that they didn’t actually witness Obama being sworn in.
Because of a noticeable gaffe by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., Obama transposed the words. He should have said he will “faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States” but instead said he will “execute the Office of President of the United States faithfully.”
As soon as he said “execute the Office of President of the United States faithfully” I thought to myself “Hey, that’s not how it goes.”
A rookie mistake. This was Roberts’ first inauguration since being appointed Chief Justice in 2005. I thought the stripes Chief Justice Rehnquist added to his robes were kind of dorky, but he never muffed the oath.
How embarrassing. Now Roberts will be the answer to a trivia question. But if he’s lucky he’ll get to administer the oath again and won’t mess it up a second time.
And if Obama has a good first term he’ll get another chance at the oath, too.
And I mean that in a nice way. Not in an In-Your-Face-Screw-You-Dude kind of way. But in a Boy-This-Is-A-Great-Country-I-Wouldn’t-Want-To-Live-Anywhere-Else kind of way.
aw, I really do think she’s a reader and a secret fan. YO! SARAH!!!
And Hawaii added:
KO soooo loves it when anyone mentions him, good or bad. :)
It’s too bad she couldn’t have given me a plug, like when DP mentioned Palaver on his site. Then again, Palin can’t remember the names of the newspapers she reads, so how can I expect her to remember the name of this humble blog?
…Ziegler says that when Palin saw a picture of MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann, “she literally let out a shriek and, pointing to his photograph, declared, ‘THAT guy is EVIL!’ “
