Rhonda Shearer writes: Thanks for writing about Bobby’s math insight. I am so happy that Bobby can be remembered in this way!

Also, yours was my first Happy Beddia Year wish. Since I was born in 1954 and my grandson was born in 2004, we both share the same Beddian Year of 2008. It is interesting to note that there were no Beddian birth years last year in 2007. Beddian birth years only occur in even numbered years even if you were born in an odd number year.

That is so way cool to share the same Beddian with your grandson!

FamousBirthdays.com has a list of famous birthdays by year; if you scroll down to 1954 you’ll see some people who will celebrate their Beddian year in 2008.

And some who won’t. I glanced down the list and my eyes froze on one name: Walter Payton.

I’ve never been a Chicago Bears fan, but anyone who likes football has to appreciate Walter Payton. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy (recall the DP Show when the topic of autographs was discussed), a tremendously talented player, and a man who died way too soon.

On a cheerier note: Chris Evert and Denzel Washington sure don’t look anywhere close to being 54.

rrgirl added: I have a little way to go before my Beddian year, but it’s in sight. add another reason to celebrate when it gets here…
my sense of fractals is visual. ever see those pretty spiral vegetables?

I probably never would have thought of the Beddian concept until (maybe) my year rolled around. Now that I know about it, it’s something I can look forward to.

Regarding the spiral vegetables: Zucchini Spirals with Fresh Vegetable Sauce.
