Hawaii comments in Dan Patrick: The Farewell Tour (xv) — The Unbearable Emptiness of 1-4pm ET:

Your title says it all. Though for me it is the unbearable emptiness of 10-1:00 PT. Especially in the car since I am often commuting at 10:00am, and then again late at night after the kiddies are all tucked in and I used to catch up with the podcasts. I think I am in the anger stage of grief because whoever is on instead of Dan, I am angry at. Especially Stephen A. Smith. Talk about from the top to the bottom of sports broadcasters in a few short weeks (Smith could be the “deadmike era” becaue I would rather listen to a dead mike than him). I don’t even dislike Colin Cowherd as much as I used to because at least he is in the time slot he is supposed to be in, not moving in on DP’s. The way things have been I have been wandering over to another station and actually listening to Jim Rome, and I don’t even like Jim Rome. Are there really no other good radio sports broadcasters (local ones aside)? So anyway, as I said and you can read, I am definitely in the anger stage.

I certainly hope Dan gets it together soon and starts up his new radio gig. If he doesn’t I may go back to car audiotapes.

Wow. If I listened to Stephen A. during the morning commute I’d likely get all Road Ragey and smash into a bunch of other cars before running over a mother pushing a baby carriage.

On Monday I listened to the opening of the show, turned off the radio, and then thought I should give Smith another chance. So I turned the radio back on — for about 15 seconds. Geez Louise, is that guy annoying or what? Seriously, the sound of his voice makes my skin crawl.

When is DP coming back? Not soon enough for me. But it’s not like he’s in a rush:

He said he is not sure when his new show will start.

“We’ve talked about starting before the next rating period, but I’m in no hurry,” he said.

Come on, Dan! We’re dying out here! I even tuned into Chris Russo on WFAN the other day. Yeah, he’s annoying, but he’s less annoying than Smith. (Plus I’d heard that WFAN was going to cover a Pedro Martinez press conference that afternoon.)

We’re getting desperate out here. Come back, Dan. We need you!

(I don’t really care for small dogs, but these guys are dang cute!)

  1. There’s something to be mined here with the pomeranians and the Michael Vick story. I just can’t put my finger on it.
