I don’t think DP wants a long, soggy goodbye. it strikes me as unmanly (unDanly?) when he announced his departure, there were 6 weeks to fill, with little or nothing for him to lose at ESPN. the best-of shows celebration week sounded good but would you put a mike in front of him for 80-odd hours under the circumstances we do know? it’s a programming nightmare. I wonder what morale at ESPN is like right now, but it would surely be worse if he and KO were on air every afternoon spinning out every possible version of so long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, adieu…ad nauseum. guys just don’t do that stuff well.

I have a list of about 35 songs (so far), although I’m not sure if all of them fit the occasion. Plus I haven’t located videos for all of them.
I detect song hints in some of the comments left here. Or perhaps I’m just reading too much into what you’re writing, as I often do when I come up with Obscure Cultural References. (What? The word “addiction” doesn’t make you immediately recall that scene from Annie Hall?) But the “so long, farewell …” is pretty dang obvious.
I’ll try to work in as many songs as I can before the Farewell Tour theme runs out of steam. And I’ll save this idea for the day (and, given his history, you just know it’s coming — maybe not today, and maybe not tomorrow, but …) that KO leaves MSNBC and we can have a Farewell Tour for him.
