Requiem for The Dan Patrick Show

Filed under: En Fuego! — Keith Olbermann Is Evil @ 18:17:44

From Funeral music… Top ten and my picks:

1. Goodbye My Lover – James Blunt
2. Angels – Robbie Williams
3. I’ve Had the Time of My Life – Jennifer Warnes and Bill Medley
4. Wind Beneath My Wings – Bette Midler
5. Pie Jesu – Requiem
6. Candle in the Wind – Elton John
7. With or Without You – U2
8. Tears in Heaven – Eric Clapton
9. Every Breath You Take – The Police
10. Unchained Melody – Righteous Brothers

I’ve always like Elton, but if “Candle in the Wind” played at my funeral I’d get up out of the coffin and walk out.

Considering the selection of music that DP plays during the show, it’s only right that he have a good funeral song should the show bite the dust. I mean, if Hillary Clinton can have a campaign song, then the DP Show deserves a funeral song.

Right off the bat, you know he is not picking anything by Celine Dion.

Good man, Dan. It’s why we love you.

I could spend all evening putting together a top ten list, but seeing as I spent most of the afternoon watching the Mets lose to Houston and I need to do something productive around the house, I’ll leave you with just this one possibility:

Picture this: The corpse of the DP Show sailing off to Valhalla as Dick Dale’s guitar goes totally en fuego. What a way to go out.

(“Miserlou” would also be a cool campaign song. It blows anything by Celine Dion right out of the water.)

Mr. Met Channels Dan Patrick

OK, so Dan’s non-annoucement marathon has been pretty excruciating, but no more so than the New York Mets’ performance the past five weeks. We (and I can say “we” since, after all, I faithfully wear the Pedro shirt for every night game, having established through scientific methods that its mojo does not work during day games) were 12-15 in June and are 2-5 so far in July. This stretch has seen some great wins, but also several soul-crushing defeats. Swept by Colorado, losing the final game of the series 17-7. Geez Louise, that’s a football score. Most worrisome has been the listless style of play.

But perhaps stretching things out to the point of snapping works. Last night’s 17-inning marathon against the Astros tested the mettle of the Metsies and we came away with a great big En Fuego:

Five hours and nine minutes of baseball, 505 total pitches thrown, a Willie Mays-like catch by Carlos Beltran (Why is there a hill in centerfield? Did someone leave extra dirt on the construction site when the park was being built? ), and Keith Hernandez’s scorebook probably looks like a Grateful Dead t-shirt. (NB to non-Mets fans: Keith meticulously color codes his scorebook.)

So hang in there, DP fans. Dan’s game is in extra innings. The Mets had a happy ending last night. Hope DP gives us a happy ending tomorrow.
