It’s the T-shirt, Stupid

Well, the Mets finally lost one, 5-3 to the Braves, a game that was within reach even though Glavine did not have his best stuff. The official scorer was very good to the Mets; we had a serious case of the dropsies and should have been tagged with way more than 2 errors. I knew we used up too many hits in Friday night’s game ….

The good news is that I got to wash my Got Pedro t-shirt.

I put it on for last Sunday’s game. I was a little worried over using up some of its mojo too early in the season, but I figured: “Hey, it’s the first game. What the heck.” The Mets won, so of course I had to wear the same shirt for game two on Tuesday. They won that one. Naturally, this forced me to wear the shirt for Wednesday’s game and voilà! They won again. I began to wonder what it would be like to go through an entire season with the same shirt, even if I did try to keep it as clean as possible by putting it on right before the game and taking it off as soon as the game was over.

I had go with the flow and wear the shirt again for the fourth game of the season on Friday; thus another win. But the mojo ran out during Saturday’s game. I guess there’s a Mojo Limit of four wins before the shirt has to be rejuvenated in the wash.

Or perhaps there’s a time factor. The shirt is 4-0 in night games and 0-1 in day games.

Further research is required.

A confounding variable is the Cap Factor. For some reason I put on the wrong hat last Sunday — not the Mets cap but my New Egg cap. So after we won game one of the season I was compelled to wear the New Egg cap for every game since then. After one loss, though, I can start fresh with the Mets cap to go with the clean Pedro shirt.

This is more complicated than The Breast Factor ….

El Duque gave up a homer on his first pitch today, rattling the foundation of my Mojo Hypothesis, but then he set down the side. And Shawn Green just homered.

Ditto, Ramón Castro.

Let’s Go Mets!
