This is the kind of thing that makes college sports better than the pros.

Bruce Pearl, Tennessee men’s basketball coach went shirtless, painted his chest, and cheered for the Lady Vols in their big game against Duke last month. Unfortunately, Tennessee lost to the Blue Devils that night. Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt repaid Coach Pearl for his spirit by cheering for the men’s team last night during their big game versus Florida, which they won. Men’s and women’s teams support each other, but it’s not often you see coaches go to these extremes.

CSTV giving props to Bruce Pearl:

Pat Summitt could use some singing lessons. (Note Vols alum Peyton Manning and Phil Fulmer, Tennessee football coach, at the game.)

  1. just a theory here, but I think Coach Pearl looks damned good in a painted on shirt, and I don’t like orange. not every coach of a certain age can pull that off; maybe the whiners are feeling the pressure…
I don’t blame Coach Summit for flailing through Rocky Top – she had a lot going on there and stayed with it till the end! I went looking through YouTube for the version they play Saturday nights on WKSU, but found the marching band versions instead. I love marching bands, and I love blue grass, and if there’s a way to bring them together, more’s the better. Rocky Top ain’t it. even if you can’t carry a tune, you have to pull a little “twang” to make it work, and I don’t know of any bluegrass band with a brass section.
